SEO - putting the pieces of a puzzle together



LeadGenerators has developed an approach to Search Engine Optimisaton (SEO) that is rather unique.

While other SEO firms address optimisation in a linear fashion, trying to achieve top positions, our approach sees SEO as a myriad of puzzle pieces. Our job is to identify the pieces of the puzzle that need improving and then working with your designer team to put all the pices together into a long term, holistic program.

We have had much success with this approach as it enables us to focus less on rankings and positions in specific search engines and much more on delivering more of the right traffic (targeted and coherent) to our client - traffic that does not make the stats package look good but traffic that converts into sales.

Some of the major pieces of the SEO puzzle include:

Keyword Research: Such a critical part of the process and the backbone to a solid optimisation program.

Keyword Selection: Not all keywords are created equal. Not all keywords are desirable for a campaign. There are many reasons why seemingly obvious keywords are not beneficial to a client. Only good research can help decide which keywords are worth fighting for…and which are worth running away from.

Indexing: Search engines need to be able to access a site and be able to flow through a site to all its pages.

Page structure: Often a site is built in a way that prevents a site from being read. Common issues are frames and Flash that are very effective ways of blocking entry and readability by search engines and seriously damage a site as far as search engines are concerned.

Scripts and Coding: Many sites employ clever scripts, such as java scripts that block search engine access.

Meta Tags: By creating different titles for different pages we are able to point the search engines to each and every page of your site.

Links: A large part of Google's algorithm is based on links. This is different for other search engines but, for Google's sake, we have developed a strong links build program for our SEO clients. Our strategy is based on the idea of quality links, not quantity!

Titles: The difference between a search engine seeing one page or 30 pages is not only a function of site build issues that are addressed in the section about page structure but also in what are called page titles. By creating different titles for different pages we are able to point the search engines to each and every page of your site.
The first stage of this work is keyword research. This is because we need to know what keywords are important to select and highlight for each and every page.
