An Elephant Worth its Weight in Gold?

Some of you may remember our recent blog post on Vicky’s elephant. Our resident PPC expert is not just adept at providing our clients with online marketing solutions; she’s a very talented artist as well.

Vicky’s elephant was part of a project called the Elephant Parade aiming to raise money to save the endangered Asian elephant. London’s best artists, along with some well-known celebrities, went to work decorating the fibreglass models and they were displayed around the entire city of London during May and June.

I got the chance to visit quite a few of the elephants (of course Vicky’s was my first port of call), and they were a pretty impressive sight. But no matter how fun they were to look at, the main purpose of the project was to auction the elephants off to the highest bidder, with the proceeds going to the charity.

With Hollywood favourite Goldie Hawn attending as patron the live auction, and the subsequent online auction, had a combined target of £2 million. Seemed quite an ambitious figure, but the news is now in – the auctions in fact doubled that target and have put a total of £4 million into the coffers of the Elephant Family!

The first we knew about Vicky’s elephant selling was an ear-splitting “Oh my God!” from the corner (which in itself was quite a shock as we don’t normally hear a peep from our Vicky). Turns out her lovely ‘Flock to the City’ sold to the highest bidder at £16,000!! If you didn’t see it, here is another chance to have a look.

We were all pretty impressed at the amount Vicky raised, but then again we always knew there was a secret side to her apart from online marketing solutions! Have a look at the rest of her wonderful, quirky illustrations on her website – Vicky’s World
