Rehab for Your Website

One of the first things we do when preparing for our Internet Marketing Training seminars is to analyse the delegates’ websites. Without being too condescending, it’s amazing how many companies haven’t even got the very basics right. But given the nature of most small businesses it is understandable. It’s a rare manager or owner who has the time to learn everything about, well everything, and it’s easy for your website to get lost in the order of importance; after all, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, right?
The thing is it’s what many do not even know is that, in SEO and in Site Conversion terms, it more often than not is underperforming. Your website may be ticking along nicely and doing what it’s supposed to be doing but many website owners don’t even realise how much more it could be achieving. In terms of SEO, it could be ranked so much better (generating more targeted traffic) and in terms of Site Conversion, if you increase the conversion rate (from traffic to sales) by just a few percent, depending on your product, in real terms that could mean thousands of pounds of additional business.
I always like to see our delegates’ faces when the penny finally drops on SEO and Site Conversion techniques; usually all it takes is for someone to explain it in simple terms. Even if you just walk away with some basic understanding it is worth coming to an Internet Marketing Seminar for the opportunity to ask questions.
I am always looking for interesting blog posts about online marketing and I found a great one today from SEOMOZ which not only injects a little humour into what can be a pretty dry subject sometimes, it’s also a pretty good overview of what we cover in our own site analyses. So if you can’t make it to one of our great seminars, at least consider these 12-steps to your website’s rehab.
