Why Aren’t My Links Showing in Webmaster?

Question:

Why aren’t all my links showing up in Google Webmaster? I’ve uploaded my viral link articles to numerous websites and have arranged link exchanges with people, where I’ve actually seen the link placed on their websites. However, when I look at my Webmaster links or attempt the Google link command these same links just don’t appear. Why aren’t they showing up in Google and if they aren’t showing up am I still getting credit for them?

Hi Felicity,

There are a number of different reasons as to why your links aren’t showing up on Webmaster or through the Google link command.

Firstly, it could be that your links haven’t yet been spidered by Google. The spidering process can take anything from a few weeks to a couple of months. If the links are fairly new then you may just need to give it a little while and they should in time show up.

If the links that you’re talking about are old then it’s worth noting that both Google’s link command and Webmaster often don’t show links from websites that have a PageRank of three or below. You should therefore aim to get your links from web pages that have a PageRank of four or higher. Although even links from a website with a PageRank of one are still giving your website a small boost, even if they aren’t showing up.

If the link exchanges you’ve arranged have been from websites with a PageRank of at least three and still aren’t showing up, this could be down to scripting issues on your link-partner’s website. JavaScript links and those stored in a database and displayed with a CGI script also can’t be indexed by Google’s spiders. Therefore you should always take care to ask your link partners for static text links only.

I hope this information has been useful to you.

Kind regards,
