Anyone who can draw a parallel between Search Engine Optimisation and Martial Arts is, in my books, somewhat of a visionary. Turns out, the visionary in question is a young man with big ideas, achieving some big results with his online marketing solutions. Garrett Miller is a young entrepreneur fast gaining a reputation for his outstanding success in the field of SEO. In case you didn’t know it, that’s our field too, so you can imagine why the web release headline caught my eye.

I was curious to see what comparisons Garrett could draw between the ancient art of hand-to-hand combat and the very modern art of SEO. Did he suggest that we try using force against Google to wrestle our clients’ websites into the top of the results?

And if so, just how did he propose we do it - karate chop our keyboard? With some scepticism I skimmed the article briefly ready to move on, but then a single line caught my eye: “Much like Martial Arts fighting, you have to plan your SEO strategy carefully and execute it without flaw. Success depends on disciplined execution so much as brilliant planning.”Now, read that again.

Here’s a link to the entire article, but to my mind, those two sentences are the most important words on the page and pretty much sum up what we try to convey to our clients every day; or to scrape the bottom of the cliché barrel – “If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.”

I think this young grasshopper may just be on to something…
