Hi Readers!

It seems that our travel clients are always getting another knock!  As if all the terrorist activity is not enough, we have also suffered form wars, bird flu and now, the latest is the big Fleetwood Holidays scam that was recently uncovered.  I must say, that after being so closely involved with online marketing for the travel industry for a few years now, I am constantly amazed at how resilient the industry is and how our clients keep bouncing back.  Every time I see this I am reminded how lucky we are at LeadGenerators to be able to work so closely with so many travel operators and learn from their strengths.

This month, I am proud to announce our new editor, Salima Baloo.  While she has graciously kept some of Huw’s work in this edition, she was determined to show us what she is made of by writing our feature article on how travel guides and other content can increase site conversions.   It’s a great article and complements LeadGenerators focus on content as such an important part of the success of online marketing campaigns.   In addition, this week’s SEO lesson discusses Alt tags and our monthly LG Search Index turns it attention to financial services.

As usual, I hope you enjoy our newsletter and look forward to hearing your comments.

3 Tips for Building Confidence

The recent Fleetwood Holidays scam, where a number of fake holiday websites left 3,000 people out of pocket, is likely to have shattered consumer confidence in booking holidays on unfamiliar sites that they have not used before. More

How Travel Guides and Content Increase Revenue Online

Search engine optimisation is concerned with designing a website so that it ranks highly in search engines when someone searches for specific words or phrases related to the site.  Higher search engine rankings result in higher traffic to the site.People usually focus on gaining more traffic to their sites but they should really be looking at gaining better traffic for their sites i.e. traffic that converts to sales.  Site conversion rate refers to the number of visitors to your site that make an enquiry or sale against the total number of visitors in a particular period or time.  The ultimate aim of any website is to convert visitors.  More

SEO From Soup To Nuts Part 6: Adding Salt to your ALT Tags

This is the sixth part of eight in my guide to Search Engine Optimisation; the part art, part science approach to getting your site listed in the search engines and attracting traffic to your site.  The previous parts, 1. Common Design Faults, 2. Choosing Tasty Keywords, 3. Your Title Tag, 4. Site Copy and 5. Meta Tags are all available by clicking on the appropriate link.

Finance Searches Are Right On The Money

The finance sector is generally on the up.  In July finance searches were at their highest level when compared with the past six months.

Surprisingly, Individual Savings Account (ISA) searches increased in July.  The ‘savings account’ category now has more than 4 times the number of searches than in July.  I would have expected that more ISA searches would have occurred around March when a large number of new ISA accounts are opened in order to make the early April deadline.  This just goes to show how unpredictable human behaviour can be. Question & Answer: Other PPC Engines

Q: Hi Salima. I’ve been at the Pay Per Click game for a few months now, and I have set up campaigns in both Yahoo! Search Marketing and Google AdWords. Are there any other sources of traffic that you can recommend?
- Helen, Pwllheli

A: Hello Helen. This is a very good question that I wish more businesses would look into. There are so many ways of attracting good online traffic and I find that so many businesses only think of Google or Yahoo! (formerly Overture). More
